Gold 5 is a collection of plug-ins that are the perfect choice for those looking to incorporate the legendary sounds of vintage British mixers into their workflow. Gold features 9 different EQs, 2 extremely rare compressors and 7 subwoofers powered by our patented Hyper 2 technology. This means you get a total of 52 speakers in the standalone Gold5Pre version of our plugin. That sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Few pieces of audio equipment achieve the iconic status of the Gold Medal products we tested. This is the most comprehensive and versatile plugin package of its kind available today. We headed to Tamborine Studios in Malmö, Sweden to try out their amazing blender from scratch. This amazing instrument was owned by the first Swedish producer Tore Johansson (A-ha, Tom Jones, Anouk, Melanie C) and has been used to record all the classic Cardigans albums. The Gold 5 now includes an extremely rare additional equalizer made in the 1970s: the 8115. This is a three-band semi-parametric equalizer with a high-pass filter. The original unit is a Class A/B Pre EQ microphone, sharing the same design, chassis and components as its popular big brother, the powerful 3081. These modifications have been standard for small console releases, but the version that we tested is an unusual version with a more modern design concept. This is a stereo set in good condition that we have converted to th Gold Edition mono. It’s hard to find because of its unique features, but in the end it’s worth every minute! The Gold 5 EQ consists of two sections (HF/HMF and LMF/LF), each containing a variety of selectable EQ modules. With so many EQ sets to choose from, you can always find the perfect one for the track you’re mixing. The Gold came with two different compressors, the 8252 and the 825 . The 8252 compressor/selector was the first device to feature a germanium transistor operating from a -2 V supply and was the predecessor to the 825 . The original 825 was a classic compressor built around a diode bridge unit. Created in 1969, its results are often described as “smooth” and “creamy”. The Gold 5 Preamp Plugin features a variety of emulations taken from vintage and rare gear. This section simulates the corresponding circuits: frequency/phase response and harmonic distortion.
