The original hardware units are handcrafted in small batches by high-end audio designer Jonte Naifeh with his incomparable sense of detail. As beautiful as these synthesisers are, Knifonium is much more than just a stunning eye toy capable of making ‘weird sounds’. It is an exceptionally musical and inspiring instrument with so many possibilities for sound shaping and modulation. Fewer than two dozen of these instruments have ever been made.

Leading designer Jonte Knife has been creating electronic tube-based equipment for mixing, mastering and sound design for many years, receiving critical acclaim for both his tube and solid-state designs. Its Knifonium has been carefully engineered to be the best in its class. Brainworx engineers modelled the complete circuits of the original hardware, including all 26 tubes, applying proprietary tolerance modelling technology to recreate natural variations in envelope parameters, pitch, LFO speed and more to make this recreation sound as realistically analogue as possible. Jonte confirms that the plug-in sounds and behaves exactly like the real thing. In his words, ‘It doesn’t sound like anything else.’
