The new product features an FM synthesis engine section, developed in collaboration with Yamaha, allowing the combination of up to eight operators. The Algorithm Finder function facilitates the creation of both classic Yamaha DX7 synthesizer sounds and modern FM sound patches. Additionally, the software now supports importing instrument files (SYX format) from Yamaha, including DX7 and TX81Z. The upcoming update promises a Spectral Zone section, featuring a spectral oscillator with Time-Stretch and Resynthesis algorithms, offering parameters like Format Shift, Spectral Filter, Purity, and Inharmonicity for various sample transformations.
HALion’s modulation capabilities have also been expanded with a redesigned interface, allowing sources and destinations to be assigned via drag-and-drop or the new Modulation Row interface (appears when parameters are clicked). Furthermore, the Envelope module has received brush, pen, and eraser tools, making it easy to create custom envelopes in addition to a range of pre-designed shapes. The new Shaper mode ensures cyclic switching between different envelope shapes in sync with the DAW tempo.
Additionally, several updated effects have been introduced, including an equalizer, delay, chorus, overdrive, envelope filter, and the ability to import impulse response files for use in the REVerence reverb effect. Steinberg developers have included several built-in files created from iconic effects units from companies like EMT and Lexicon. Among other HALion 7 enhancements are extended wavetable synthesis functions, an updated mixer with improved effects processing capabilities, and a redesigned MediaBay for easier browsing/selection of samples, layers, and presets.
